By the end of 2005, guitarist Yin Di, while a member of another band, was increasingly eager to found a new band according to his ideal sound. Later he assembled the drummer Zhang Yang and guitarist Cui Hao from Noneed70's, as well as lead vocalist Duan Yumeng, and bassist Zhou Qichun from his own band to form Surprise (Yi Wai Jing Xi), of which all the members share a deep love for music, especially rock music. And it is a common pursuit of a music ideal that has brought them together. Their music combines various elements of rock music to their taste, including powerful rhythm and overwhelming expressiveness. They express their ideals and emotions through music, which is their language, sincere and touching. Without a fixed style, they are dedicated to follow the style they like, "a big surprise," to boil it down. They have presented audiences with surprises with their performances, as illustrated in the Midi Music Festival 2006, when the entire audience was deeply touched by their music. It is a wholesome psyche and a positive attitude towards life that are manifested in their music, instead of a portrayal of the escapism, depression, or the less sunny side of the society. This power reaches the hearts of the audience.
